Female infanticide is one of the gnawing questions that remain unheard, unanswered in this excessively cultured nation that worships females. It is arguably the most brutal and destructive manifestation of the anti-female bias that pervades our patriarchal society, and remains a critical concern. If reports are to be believed, a lot has been done and initiatives are still on to curb this heinous menace that disturbs our demographics.
The same reports also bear testimony to the failures of all those much touted initiatives. This squarely implies that either the Government efforts were lacking, or that this practice of female infanticide is so widely and so deeply rooted in our society that now it has transformed into a phenomenon.
Whatever the reason may be the fact remains that we have comprehensively failed in curbing the menace of female infanticide.
Satya Meva Jayate, Aamir Khan’s maiden television show made the country hooked to their television sets one fine Sunday morning. It came as a surprise package of overwhelming emotions and disturbing facts clubbed together in a laudable concept and notice-worthy script. The tag line of the show reads ‘Dil pe lagegi Tabhi baat Banegi’ and the very first episode convincingly lived up to the expectations raised by this hard-hitting tagline. The show left people bowled out not only because it had one of the most influential faces of Bollywood as a host, but also that it brought home the gross reality of Female infanticide in a way that made the entire society stand up, take notice and feel responsible for this brutality so prevalent within us. Another shock was in store for the audience when Aamir Khan exhumed the extent of negligence that the judiciary treats this grave issue with.
“Why should one watch the program?”
“This program engages. This will make you think. When I was watching, I could not think of anything else. It stunned me. You will be spellbound. I was.” said Prasoon Joshi, noted lyricist, when asked about the show.
Looking around us, we get the feeling that everyone was.

And we believe that we need more shows like this which aim to awaken people, instead of those that get them sloshed with overwhelming dose of masala entertainment.
